Tsai prays for Taiwan to remember lessons

Taiwan's president-elect Tsai Ing-wen said on Facebook Thursday that she prays to gods to bless Taiwan and make the country remember lessons learned from each catastrophe that has stricken the country.

As the rescue effort enters its sixth day at the collapsed Weiguan Jinlong building in Taiwan’s southwestern city of Tainan after the Feb. 6 earthquake, Tsai visited a temple near the hometown of her family in the southern county of Pingtung on Thursday.

Tsai said she prayed to the god of the earth and other gods with the hope of seeing more lives saved from the earthquake in Tainan.

Following her visit to the temple, Tsai said on her Facebook page that she stands in awe of nature’s power and understand the changeability of life and dare not ask Heaven and gods for giving Taiwan happiness thereafter. "But I pray for Taiwanese people to become stronger and the country to remember lessons learned from each catastrophe that comes our way," Tsai said.
