Sunny, hot weather forecast for Sunday

Taipei, July 13 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau forecast mostly sunny and hot weather across Taiwan on Sunday, although northern, northeastern and eastern Taiwan might see sporadic showers in the afternoon. Temperatures could reach a high of 36 degrees Celsius in the north, 35 degrees in the central and southern parts of the country and 34 degrees in the east, according to the bureau. The bureau cautioned people in southeast Taiwan to be aware of hot and dry Foehn winds on Sunday and Monday. Meanwhile, southwesterly winds could bring intermittent rain to northern, northeastern and eastern Taiwan from Sunday to Tuesday, the bureau said. The effects of tropical storm Rammasun, which formed Saturday in waters east of the Philippines, is expected to reach Taiwan by Wednesday, bringing rain to the eastern and southern parts of the country. As of 8 a.m. Sunday, the storm was centered about 2,000 kilometers east-southeast of Taiwan's southernmost tip of Eluanbi, moving in a westerly direction at a speed of 23 km per hour, the bureau said. The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 64.8 kph, with gusts of up to 90 kph. (By Christie Chen)
