Taipei, June 9 (CNA) Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin touted Taipei's bonds of brotherhood with Shanghai at the fifth Taipei-Shanghai City Forum in Taipei Monday, saying the two cities have almost become one. Taipei and Shanghai are "not just brothers. They have almost become one city. It's just that it is divided into two different places," Hau said when he addressed the annual twin-city event. He said the two cities have signed 19 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) to promote mutual cooperation and exchanges, and have not just moved ahead together but have also stood out as role models for other cities. Hau and Shanghai Deputy Mayor Tu Guangshao attended the forum at which they witnessed the signing of four new MOUs for operations and exchanges between the two cities. The MOUs included one forged by the University of Taipei and Fudan University in Shanghai to promote cooperation and exchanges, and a cooperation and exchange MOU between the Taipei Arts Festival and the Shanghai International Arts Festival. Others were signed to promote cooperation and exchanges between Taipei's Songshan District and Shanghai's Changning District, and between Taipei's Shilin District and Shanghai's Hongkou District. Tu said the twin-city forum has made enormous contributions since it was organized in 2010, and the four new MOUs signed Monday indicated that the two cities have developed in-depth cooperative relationships. The main topics of discussion at the 2014 Taipei-Shanghai City Forum were changes in cities, innovation and design, and "green convenient cities." (By Huang Yi-han and Elizabeth Hsu)
