BUENOS AIRES (AP) -- Estudiantes defeated local rivals Gimnasia 1-0 on Sunday to move level on points with Colon at the top of Argentina's first division after eight rounds of matches.
Colon drew 0-0 on Saturday with San Lorenzo, which is one point behind the leaders, while River Plate lost 3-2 to All Boys to remain at 11 points, four points off the pace in the middle of the table.
In other matches Sunday, Boca Juniors drew 1-1 with Argentinos Juniors, Newell's Old Boys defeated Racing 2-0 and Arsenal tied 1-1 with Rosario.
Estudiantes forward Franco Jara beat Gimnasia keeper Fernando Monetti in the 10th minute for the game's only score.
Estudiantes' Patricio Rodriguez and Gimnasia's Facundo Pereyra were sent off following a scuffle in second-half injury time.
Colon goalkeeper German Montoya was the man of the match against San Lorenzo after a string of saves kept San Lorenzo from scoring.
River Plate netted first against All Boys, with Carlos Carbonero taking advantage of a mistake by Santiago Ladino in the 15th.
Chilean Gonzalo Espinoza leveled the score in the 33rd and Agustin Torassa and Jonathan Calleri added goals for All Boys in the three minutes after halftime.
Emmanuel Gigliotti opened the scoring for Boca in the 37th, but Leonardo Pisculichi equalized for Argentinos three minutes from time.
Boca, like rival River Plate, remains four points off the lead on the table.
Sixteen-year-old Ezequiel Ponce netted Newell's first goal in the 10th, with former France international David Trezeguet extending the lead in the 83rd.
Federico Carrizo equalized in the 83rd for Rosario after Julio Furch opened the scoring in the 41st for Arsenal.
In Saturday's other games, Belgrano drew 1-1 with Olimpo and Tigre drew 0-0 against Godoy Cruz. On Friday, Rafaela won 3-1 Velez Sarsfield.
Lanus plays Quilmes in the last game of the round on Monday.
