'The Wolf of Wall Street' tops weekend box office in Taiwan

Taipei, Feb. 17 (CNA) Martin Scorsese's black comedy "The Wolf of Wall Street," which opened in local theaters on Feb. 14, racked up over NT$32 million (US$1.06 million) in ticket sales to top weekend box office charts in Taiwan. As of Feb. 16, the film had taken in NT$16.32 million in Taipei alone, according to figures from atmovies.com.tw. It was followed by war film "Lone Survivor," which raked in NT$3.57 million in box office earnings in Taipei over the three-day period. "The Wolf of Wall Street," based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, a former stockbroker who was convicted of fraud, has scored Oscar nominations for best picture, best director, best actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), best supporting actor (Jonah Hill), and best adapted screenplay (Terence Winter).
