Taipei, Feb. 17 (CNA) Lien Chan, honorary chairman of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT), left for Beijing Monday evening. Lien, whose four-day trip to China will include a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping Tuesday, said at the Taoyuan International Airport that he is under no instructions from any individual or political group, and added that the possibility of a meeting between President Ma Ying-jeou and Xi will not be broached during his meeting with the Chinese head of state. Accompanied by his wife Lien Fang Yu and an 80-member entourage, Lien said the group, consisting of leaders from various walks of life, will exchange views with Chinese leaders in an effort to improve the understanding and trust between the two sides. When asked about his son Sean Lien's reported intention to run for the Taipei mayorship, the former vice president said he has encouraged his son to serve the country and wishes him success.
