Taipei, Jan. 5 (CNA) Temperatures across Taiwan dipped Sunday, owing to the arrival of a strong cold air mass, with the mercury plunging to 9.9 degrees Celsius in Chiayi, which is a record low in the ground area on the island, according to the Central Weather Bureau. In New Taipei City in northern Taipei, temperatures plunged to 11.1 degrees Celsius in Dansui, and 11.3 degrees in Banciao, according to the Bureau. It also forecast temperatures of between 12 and 18 degrees for northern Taiwan, 10 to 22 degrees for central Taiwan and 12 to 24 degrees for southern Taiwan, during the day. However, fair weather is expected on Monday, given the fact that the strength of the air mass is receding. The fair weather will last till Thursday, when another more powerful cold air mass is expected to drive down temperatures to below 10 degrees Celsius, the Bureau pointed out.
