Taipei, Jan. 5 (CNA) Most of Taiwan was shrouded in poor quality air Sunday because of too many suspended particulate in the air that have moved in from abroad, the Environmental Protection Administration stated. The administration further said that the air quality was considered moderate to unhealthy, especially in western Taiwan and the two outlying islands of Kinmen and Matsu. In Kaohsiung City and the counties of Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan and Pingtung, the Pollutant Standard Index was pegged between 100 and 120, while in Kinmen it hovered between 95 and 115, which were all within the red range or at unhealthy level. The administration has cautioned the general public, especially those allergic to air pollutants to avoid intensive outdoor activities and to wear surgical masks. (By Hsu Chih-wei and Maubo Chang)
