Taipei, Oct. 6 (CNA) The diminishing power and size of Typhoon Fitow throughout Sunday means that a land warning in effect since the day before could be lifted overnight for Taiwan proper, the Central Weather Bureau said. As of 8 p.m., the storm was centered 190 kilometers north of Taipei, moving in a west by northwesterly direction at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour, according to the bureau. The land warning could be lifted in the early hours of Monday morning, with the sea warning likely to be lifted before noon on the storm's weakening. A weather alert remained in effect Sunday night for regions north of Taichung City in central Taiwan, but rainfall is expected to taper off as Fitow moves farther away from Taiwan, the bureau said.
