Japan-bound winger Alfie Mafi has been released from the remainder of his two-year contract with the Western Force for disciplinary reasons.

The Super 15 club said in a statement Sunday that the termination of the 24-year-old Mafi's contract "did not involve any untoward behavior involving any member of the public or public property."

Mafi, who has scored five tries for the Force this season, is reported to have signed a contract with Japanese club Honda Heat beginning later this year and after his Force contract was due to expire.

He was suspended from the Force's last two matches, including Saturday's 11-11 draw with Queensland in Perth.

Mafi has represented Australia at under-19, under-20 and Sevens and was the Force's leading try-scorer last season.
