Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to allow parliament elections after riots

According to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s website, Nazarbayev will allow parliament elections to be took place in the oil town of Zhanaozen after a state of emergency was declared following riots last month.

Kazakhstan’s Constitutional Council ruled against holding elections in Zhanaozen, Igor Rogov, the head of the council, told reporters on January 6 in Astana, the capital. The riots on December 16 left 16 dead and at least 100 wounded.

Kazakhstan, is officially a presidential republic and that moreover, Nursultan Nazarbayev is the first and only president at present.
