Georgia's parliament has approved sending another battalion of soldiers to Afghanistan, which would make the small former Soviet republic the largest non-NATO troop contributor to the military campaign.

The parliament voted 103-1 on Tuesday to send the battalion of 749. It was not immediately clear when the soldiers would be deployed.

Georgia already has 936 soldiers in Afghanistan, so the additional forces would raise the total to 1,685. Australia currently has the largest non-NATO contingent in Afghanistan at 1,550.

The Georgian forces in Afghanistan are under the command of the U.S. contingent.
