TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Ang Lee (李安) has been listed as the 10th best film director of the 21st century by website “They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They?,” while two other Taiwanese colleagues, Hou Hsiao-hsien (侯孝賢) and Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮), also featured in the top-100.
The main condition to be listed was to have made two movies in the period from 2000 to 2016 that were included in the website’s 1,000 greatest movies of the century.
Lee, who achieved the summit of his career so far by winning four Academy Awards for the Chinese-language “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” appeared as No.10 on the list of directors.
Tsai, who heralds from Malaysia, came in at No.32 while Hou was listed as No.36.
The overall No.1 director of the century, according to the website, is also an Asian, Wong Kar-wai (王家衛) from Hong Kong, the director of “In the Mood for Love” (花樣年華).
David Lynch of the United States was named as second and Austrian Michael Haneke as third.
