TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Taiwan's Tourism Bureau is offering free half-day tours for transit or transfer passengers with 7- to 24-hour layovers, who have valid Taiwan travel visas or come from countries eligible for visa-exempt entry.

There are both morning and afternoon half-day tours. The morning tour includes visits to sites in Sanxia and Yingge. The afternoon tour includes visits to Taipei 101, Longshan Temple, and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and Memorial Park, among other sites in Taipei.

In addition to travel visa holders and those with visa-exempt status, citizens from India, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos who have applied for a "Travel Authorization Certificate," are also eligible. Registrants must print out this certificate, which is available on the Taiwan National Immigration Agency website.

For the rest of eligible travelers, only a passport valid for at least six months and a completed immigration embarkation/disembarkation card is required.

To book a tour, go to the Tourist Service Center in the Arrival Lobby of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Up to six seats can be reserved 14 to 30 days in advance. For those that wish to book a tour in advance, please fill in the application form and e-mail it to halfdaytour@tbroc.gov.tw.

To avoid missing departure flights, passengers registering for the morning tour must be scheduled to depart after 3:00 p.m. on the day of the tour, and passengers registering for the afternoon tour must be scheduled depart after 8:30 p.m. on the same day.
