ROC roller skating team gets ready for next year’s Summer Universiade

The 2016 Asia International Roller Sports Open, which also serves as a test event for the 29th Summer Universiade, kicked off on Dec 3 and ran through Dec 6.

The 2016 Asia International Roller Sports Open, which also serves as a test event for the 29th Summer Universiade, kicked off on Dec 3 and ran through Dec 6.

A total of nine countries participated in the event, of which the Korean team drew the most attention. Shin So Yeong, the current world record holder of 300m race, has also competed in the event.     

The ROC team consists of 50 roller skating athletes, the most among the nine participating countries.ROC team coach Lin Yung-hsiang said the team is blessed with the most outstanding roller skating athletes in Taiwan and that they are now training at the National Sports Training Center in Kaohsiung. He said he has high hopes that they will do well in next year’s Summer Universiade.

Kao, Mao-chieh, ChaoTsu-chen and Chen Yen-chen of the male team and Yang Ho-chen, Li Meng-chu and Chen Ying-chu of the female team have all obtained outstanding results in the Asian roller skating championships in October.  

Kao, who carries the heaviest weight of expectation, said, “I am in a good condition, and will compete in the race with a more relaxed mood, not giving myself too much pressure. I hope I can finish the race within the time limit I set for myself this time, and continue to get ready for the final team selection as well as the Summer Universiade next year.”
