SYDNEY (AP) -- St. George-Illawarra has fired Steve Price as head coach and appointed Paul McGregor in a caretaker role for the remainder of the 2014 National Rugby League season.
Dragons chief executive Peter Doust on Monday said the 36-year-old Price hadn't delivered expected results, despite a number of high-profile player signings.
The Dragons have slumped to 13th spot in the 16-team NRL standings after six defeats in their last seven matches.
McGregor, a former club captain, has been working as an assistant to Price, who took over when Wayne Bennett left for the Newcastle Knights after guiding the Dragons to the NRL premiership in 2010 and the 2011 World Club Challenge title. The Dragons have won 16 titles in Australia's top-flight rugby league competition.
