Apple is expected to reveal a new version of its popular tablet computer, iPad, on Wednesday at an event in San Francisco.

Apple sent out invitations to media last week of its first major media event since the death of Steve Jobs with an image showing part of an iPad screen, igniting rumors in the online technology world.

Speculation is that the new iPad, “iPad 3” or another name, will feature a higher resolution display, a faster processor, an improved camera and Apple’s Siri artificial intelligence, much like Apple’s popular iPhone 4S.

Since the first iPad came out in 2010, sales of traditional computers have slowed in the world. Apple has sold 55 million iPads so far, about the same as the estimated number of Mac computers in use.
